The aggregates industry has always been looking for new technologies to adapt itself to the reality of the market’s consumption. Currently, around 40% of the market’s demand is for small stones, gravel sand, grit, fertilizers, stonemeal, coal, asphalt recycling, slag and iron ore. This situation has forced quarries to adapt their screening process, by using proper equipment for processing fine material without generating big losses.

The result, according to Athox Mining Solutions, is an aggregates industry that is increasingly demanding in terms of product quality. They are adapting their production plants with impact crushers for fine material and recrushers that will meet their standards. They are also using appropriate screens that can guarantee its classification.

“To obtain an aggregate with extra-fine particles, the use of high-frequency screens is indicated. In case of products with larger granulometry, multi-inclination and modular screens are most used, as they allow the material to enter the screens at a high speed, slowing it down when it reaches the end. This alternation in movement guarantees a perfect screening process, able to receive large production loads”, explains Paulo José Alves dos Santos, director of engineering and innovation at Athox.

Athox completed ten years in the equipment manufacturing field. Through the years, the company has been investing in developing projects, studying improvements in crushing, grinding, transport and screening machines, parts and process optimization, for the mineral and aggregates beneficiation industry. Providing services throughout Brazil, the company included the North American market in its business, exporting impact crushers and three models of modular vibrating screens.

Best aggregate stratification
The high frequency screens manufactured by Athox Mining Solutions use high speed vibration between 3,000 and 4,500 rpm, induced directly on the classification screen, allowing greater product stratification and separation. It improves the efficiency at high production rates when compared to conventional screens. “The equipment offers ideal gradation control for fine material recovery in dry applications with granulometry between 10 and 0.3mm, operating with a 30 to 40 degrees inclination”, details Paulo.

Available in the standard models AHFS 5′ x 12′, AHFS 6′ x 12′, AHFS 6′ x 18′ and AHFS 6′ x 20′, and customized according to the client’s needs. The screens work with an inclination of 30 to 40 degrees and have electric vibrators placed on transversal bars that support the screens. They are attached to the static side of the screen by rubber cushions that keep vibration isolated to the external structure. The screen has a metallic structure and an electric control panel, in a design that does not require the implementation of large and complex foundations.

“The high-frequency movement is very important for classifying different materials in the most varied processes, especially when the goal is to obtain a finer product, with smaller granulometry. The main characteristic of this type of activation, as the name implies, is to work in high frequency. However, the amplitude is lower than those used in other conventional vibratory movements”, says Paulo.

According to the specialist, high-frequency vibration alone does not transport the material and that is why gravitational action is very important. The screen must have enough inclination to let the gravitational force perform.Adjusting to the right angle is critical to achieving the proper speed, matching capacity and sorting efficiency.
